NSS was launched on 24-09-1969 the birth centenary year of the Father of the Nation
“Mahatma Gandhi”
The National Service Scheme,
popularly known as NSS was launched in Mahatma Gandhiji’s centenary year, 1969.
Aimed at developing student’s personality through community service. NSS is a
voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2
levels working for a campus-community linkage.
The cardinal principle of the NSS programme is that it is
organized by the students themselves, and both students and teachers through
their combined participation in community service, get a sense of involvement
in the tasks of nation building.
Objectives
behind the NSS:
v To enable
the students to understand the community in which they work.
v To
understand themselves in relation to their community.
v To identify
the needs and problems in the community for the solution of which they can be
involved.
v To develop
among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
v To apply
their education in finding practical solution to individual and community
problems.
v To develop
competence required for group living and sharing responsibilities.
v Gain skills
in mobilizing community participation.
v To acquire
leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
v To develop
capacity to meet emergencies and national disasters.
v To practice
national integration.
NSS MOTTO
The motto of National
Service Scheme is ‘NOT ME BUT YOU’.
This reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for
selfless service. It shows that the welfare of an individual is ultimately
dependent on the welfare of society on the whole.
NSS SYMBOL
The symbol of the National
Service Scheme is based on the wheel of the Konark Sun Temple situated in
Orissa. The wheels of the Sun temple portray the creation, & signify the
movement in life across time and space. It signifies the progressive cycle of
life as wells as implies the continuous striving of NSS for social
transformation and upliftment.
NSS BADGE

1.We will
co-operate with the progress of making India a developed country.
2. After
becoming ideal citizens ourselves, we will assists in making our country people
–disciplined citizdns.

launch a campaign for making ourselves cultured, keeping environment neat and
clean, un-polluted and for displaying the best and most excellent example in
our studies and work.
4.We will
eradicate the social evils including the rising injustices against and will
ascertain an honorable place for them.
5. We will
root out corruption from society by knowledge & high moral values.
6. We will strengthen
our country by national integrity, national security and patriotism.
7. We will inspire people to be law-abiding
citizens.
8. We will
check deforestation and will grow new trees for the safety of environment.
